Or at least Wednesday was.
I went in to see my tutor about the resubmit dates, and then was due to run for a bus to Donna's house to have a picnic with her and the boys (one of which is my "son-in-law to be"). So I was talking to Janet, and she rang up the Student Programmes Centre and we established that I could resubmit everything - by August 17th at 12pm - and still be able to graduate in October. So I walk to the bus, whilst bbm-ing Donna to tell her that I will no longer make it to the picnic, as I needed to go home and work on assignments.
When I got home, I had some lunch and then turned on my computer. Pop my university memory stick into the side, and "buzzzzzz" I check my email via my phone and - devastation!
I have just had some extra information from the Student and Programme Centre. It appears that you cannot, as first thought, submit the work for the four modules over the summer as resits.
I’m afraid that, under the academic regulations, there is no alternative but for you to re-enrol to repeat the year. Your work would then be submitted through the February and June boards as usual.
I have copied the relevant academic regulations below which are quite clear.
Regulation 15.4 and 20.4
There has been a change to the conditions about whether an undergraduate student is allowed to repeat an assessment/examination at the first available attempt (usually the summer resit period). For undergraduate students, this will be permitted only where failed modules do not exceed 60 credits. If the student has failed more than 60 credits, s/he will be required to repeat the year of study, with or without attendance.
Where extenuating circumstances are accepted for more than 60 credits, or the student has a combination of failed modules and modules where extenuating circumstances have been accepted that total more than 60 credits, the student is not permitted to complete the assessments at the next opportunity. The assessments will normally be undertaken during the subsequent academic year. (This applies to undergraduate students only).
My apologies for having raised your hopes. But the SPC rechecked the position and came back to me very quickly.
I will update the other tutors on the situation.
So, Wednesday afternoon was spent on the phone to Wrecsam LEA and Student Finance Wales. As this is will now be my 5th year, there is the possibility of no funding. Though Student Finance Wales have said that I can get the Maintenance Loan, but need to go through the LEA for everything else. So I have done my application online.
The LEA emailed me yesterday, requesting that I send them a letter from my doctor and the university, telling them about the situation. Doctor's letter requested - check. University letter requested - check (along with a very uncomfortable conversation during my request, that resulted in no explanation or apology for this disaster).
Strongly worded letter to the Vice Chancellor - soon to be check. But I have children to go collect from town, and I don't think I can really give the time that is needed to express myself clearly and coherently by rushing it.
Just thought you should all know why I am so very annoyed, and likely to be for a long while to come.

Where is the "dislike" button when one is needed? I am so sorry Ceri! I know you are devastated with this news, but don't let it stop you!!! You can get through it. You have worked too hard to let this or anything else stop you.

Awww, thanks guys. It's tough. I can't believe I'm having to go through another year of this. Just really glad I hadn't booked any of the stuff for graduation yet, had just been talking about it for the past 2 months - grrr
